IN LOVING MEMORY

Angus Carter

Angus Carter

Mr. Angus Carter, aka Joe Rock, affectionately called Gus, transitioned from his earthly home to eternity on Sunday December 17, 2017 following a brief illness. Born in Barnwell County, South Carolina December 9, 1953, he spent 59 years calling Winston-Salem, NC home. He was a 1973 graduate of East Forsyth High School and furthered his education at Forsyth Technical Community College where he received and Associate of Arts Degree in Welding. Angus had a hobby of collecting knives of all kinds and cherished his collection. He was a very humorous person who enjoyed laughter and making others laugh. His wit and “quick come backs” will be missed.

Not having any children of his own, he was the favorite “Big Cousin” to many of his first cousin’s children, and always had something funny to say. As our hearts are heavy, we smile and even chuckle at the thought of his many jokes and telephone disguises. He fooled many with his little boy voice of “Antwan” and the “elderly church mother."

Angus retired from Kaplan Early Learning Company, Lewisville, NC in December, 2016. He was currently employed part time with Alpha Best Education, a subsidiary of Kaplan.

He leaves to cherish fond and humorous memories, his parents, Rev. Isaac and Lucy Carter; sister, Cathy Carter of Greensboro, NC; uncle, Jacob Carter; two aunts, Mildred Glenn, Bronx, NY, and Retha (Gonza) Hazel of Sacramento, CA; in addition to the many cousins and other family and friends, he also had special childhood friends who were like brothers: Christopher Hammonds, Oak Ridge, TN, Edward Caldwell, Cincinnati, OH, Allen Caldwell, Kernersville, NC, Michael Caldwell, Willie Coker, Keith Epperson, Donald McNair, and also Anthony Shore, who was like a son, all of Winston-Salem, NC . Special thank you to cousins Earline Barnes and Cynthia Jackson who were like sisters, for always being there and being supportive in every way. Funeral services will be conducted 11:30 am Friday, December 22, 2017 in the chapel of Hooper Funeral Home with Rev. Leon Ogelsby officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11:00am-11:30am at the funeral home Friday.
