All of these sadden me, but this one above all. I remember Richard from elementary school at Carver Consolidated School back in the "separate-but-equal" days. He had, as I recall, the most devilish laugh and he was from a faraway and exotic place known as Kernersville. Unfortunately, we went our separate ways and never saw each other again until I got to East and found him there. By then, things had changed, our lives were different and we never reconnected again. But I was still shocked to hear of his untimely death.

I attended East Forsyth a short time. Richard was one of the first people that welcomed me when I was forced to change schools my senior year. I never saw Richard when he wasn't smiling or making a play for the girls. He had a contagious happiness that seemed to rub off on people around him. Richard did indeed have a big devilish laugh that was followed by devilish deeds. It saddens me greatly his life was cut so short. During that year it seemed life would go on forever and that carefree place we lived in would be ours for eternity. Choices were made about life without thought and depth so freely and fast. Little did we know a blink of an eye would bring us to where we are today. A lifetime that passed so quickly, so much happened. Rest in peace Richard.
